Wilkenson Clear self portrait silhouette M-3 3/8/09
The assignment for this project was to design a self portrait but in a silhouette form. Steps I took to create my silhouette were first looking at the examples of other silhouettes. Next step was learning how to use illustrator to create it and then practicing with the pen tool. We were required to make 2 portraits and use our silhouette of us as well as add words to it.
When doing my silhouette I used my upper half rather than my whole body. I used regular text on minds because I didn't want minds to be to fancy. I have a lot of basic ideas and my words are powerful so I think they are bolder in the strong format, or not even so much that but they seem more important and could be taking more serious. My background for the first one is plane so that my silhouette sticks out more, but on my other one it is split between two different colors that are cool and calming to show comfort.
I think the way I cropped minds does make for and interesting composition because, it is a salute. I think the font and texts fits because as I said before it is a serious thing and I think basic text is taking more serious then old English text. My backgrounds help to pull both myself portraits silhouette stand out and show more.
I think I did very well on it looking at the rubric I would say I hit most of the things to make this piece of art proficient. I like that minds is very original and also it creative in my opinion. With this project everything was new to me silhouettes and using illustrator. The new tools I used was the pen tool and the brush tool also type on a path tool as well. All together I learned how to make a silhouette how to work with illustrator and the tools it comes with and how to map out my ideas a little better with my background to make my art work really stand out.
I liked both of them, they were very unique with a nice color pick on each of them to bring out your silhouettes.
